Needle felting
What is needle felting you ask.
Felting is used with fine needles which have notches on the end referred to as Barbs, and when you carefully stab your wool it is these barbs that bind the wool fibres together until your wool becomes firm.
You can flat or 3d needle felt pictures, animals, jewellery and so many more projects.
Wet Felting traditionally uses water and soap to join the wool fibres together. Merino wool is the perfect wool to use for wet felting projects.
Microns what is this?
This is the measurement of wool thickness, the lower the number the finer the wool.
Merino wool is usually 23microns making it less favourable for needle felting , but great for wet felting projects.
Wool tops usually referred to as Roving Wool. Wool tops usually come in long lenghts and pull gently apart to seperate, if you pull it hard it will lock together. perfect for needle and wet felting.Roving wool can be slightly scruffy and once you have felted your project you find stray hairs which you can cut and restab your felt to smooth.
Carded batts has been hand carded and the fibres tend to be thicker and run in different directions and shorter than Merino or roving. Batts are rolled and springy sheets so when you get this be aware it is double layed and perfect for covering wire armature.
Wool Lock, curls, cleaned natural wool left in its natural state or dyed.
Core wool the cheapest wool you can purchase and great to use as the inside of your 3D needle felt project. And then you use the other wools to complete colour and dimention.
